Austin Community Foundation Awards $2.3M to 99 Nonprofits
Local philanthropy powers dozens of grassroots groups across Central Texas
Austin Social Impact News is produced by Grateful Giving, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tech startup focused on transforming every purchase into a force for good.

In summer 2025, the Austin Community Foundation (ACF) distributed more than $2.3 million in competitive grants to 99 nonprofits across Central Texas. This major investment targets key areas like affordable housing, education, health, and economic security.
What’s notable about this round is ACF’s emphasis on equity and measurable impact. Grant reviewers looked closely at how organizations serve underserved communities, their capacity for outcomes, and whether they’re driven by local leadership. Many of the grantees are small, neighborhood-based nonprofits that often struggle to compete for large national funding—but whose work is deeply embedded in local outcomes.
Funds were allocated across three strategic focus areas:
Economic Mobility: supporting initiatives to reduce wealth disparities, develop career pathways, and stabilize housing
Health & Humanities: bolstering wellness services, mental health access, and arts/cultural programming
Nurturing Our Region: investing in environmental stewardship, animal welfare, and green space preservation
The distribution also leaned into general operating support, signaling ACF’s trust in organizations to allocate funds where they need them most. Grants ranged from $5,000 to $50,000, depending on scale, geography, and demonstrated impact.
One standout example: Good Work Austin received a $50,000 unrestricted grant from this pool to expand programming for food and beverage workers in Central Texas. According to their announcement, the flexibility of the funding allows them to respond to immediate needs without being tied to a specific project.
This round reinforces ACF’s role as a central philanthropic engine in Austin’s social sector. By supporting both legacy organizations and emerging groups, it aims to strengthen the ecosystem rather than favor just a few big names. The Forever Austin Fund, which underpins this grantmaking, is a permanent resource designed to sustain this support over time.
Still, challenges remain. Even well-designed grants can fall short if nonprofits lack the internal capacity to scale. Moreover, the amount of dollars doesn’t erase systemic inequities in funding access. But for many grantees, this isn’t just a grant—it’s a vote of confidence in their leadership, their community roots, and their potential for impact.
