Austin Nonprofits to Receive AI Training Through $1M Google.org Grant

A powerful boost for organizations serving Central Texas

Austin Social Impact News is produced by Grateful Giving, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tech startup focused on transforming every purchase into a force for good.

A new $1 million grant from Google.org is opening the door for 20 local nonprofits to harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI). The Austin Community Foundation, which received the grant, has launched the AI Opportunity Accelerator—a program designed to help nonprofits integrate AI tools in ways that make their work smarter, faster, and more impactful.

Over a nine-month period, selected nonprofits will receive hands-on support, including training sessions, one-on-one guidance, and technical assistance tailored to their organizational needs. The accelerator also includes dedicated funding to help cover staffing and implementation costs, reducing barriers that often prevent small and mid-sized nonprofits from adopting emerging technologies.

Applications for the program opened in May 2025 and are open to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the five-county Central Texas area: Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell counties. The program prioritizes organizations working to address systemic inequities, particularly those led by or serving communities that have been historically underrepresented in tech and philanthropy.

The initiative is a first-of-its-kind effort for Austin Community Foundation. It marks a shift in how capacity building is being approached in the nonprofit sector—one that recognizes the growing importance of technology in driving meaningful, sustainable change.

This investment comes at a critical moment. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, many nonprofits risk being left behind. Staff members are already stretched thin, and few have the time or resources to explore how tools like AI can make their operations more efficient or their impact more measurable.

Efforts like the AI Opportunity Accelerator can help level the playing field. When local organizations have access to technology and the skills to use it well, they can better serve the people who rely on them every day.

For those who care about making a difference in Central Texas, this program offers a promising example of what’s possible when philanthropy, innovation, and equity come together. Supporting the growth of nonprofits isn’t just about funding—it’s about equipping leaders with the tools they need to adapt, thrive, and keep moving forward.
