New Supportive Housing in Austin Offers Stability and Hope

Cady Lofts opens 100 permanent homes for people exiting homelessness, backed by the Austin Community Foundation and partners

A new chapter has begun for individuals in the Austin area who have long faced housing insecurity. Cady Lofts, a newly opened permanent supportive housing development in Central Austin, is now offering 100 units to people who previously experienced homelessness. This milestone project is the result of collaboration among housing advocates, nonprofit organizations, and philanthropic partners who are committed to building lasting solutions.

Located just north of downtown, Cady Lofts offers more than just a roof overhead. Residents benefit from wraparound support services that include mental health care, case management, and other critical resources designed to help people stabilize and rebuild their lives. The goal is not only to provide housing, but to create a foundation for long-term wellbeing.

The project is led by the nonprofit Integral Care, which focuses on mental health, substance use services, and housing support. Cady Lofts represents a permanent housing model, meaning that there is no expiration on how long someone can live there. This provides residents with the safety and consistency that are often out of reach when living on the streets or in temporary shelters.

Funding and support came from multiple sources, including a key investment from the Austin Community Foundation. Through its Housing Accelerator Fund, the foundation provided flexible funding that helped bring the project to life. According to the foundation, this kind of housing is one of the most effective tools for ending homelessness, particularly when paired with comprehensive support services.

What makes Cady Lofts especially significant is its focus on dignity and inclusion. Each resident has a private apartment, access to communal spaces, and the opportunity to connect with staff and neighbors in a stable environment. The project also reflects a growing understanding that housing is healthcare, and that safe shelter is a prerequisite for recovery and growth.

Permanent supportive housing is not a quick fix, but it is a proven one. For many of the new residents at Cady Lofts, this move marks the first time in years they can close their own front door and know they are safe. It is a small building with a big purpose, offering stability, support, and the chance to dream about the future.
