Volunteers to Roll Up Their Sleeves for Austin-Area Parks This Fall

Austin Parks Foundation invites residents across the region to join hands-on projects that support greener, cleaner public spaces

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, thousands of volunteers across the Austin area will gather to improve public green spaces as part of the Austin Parks Foundation’s annual “It’s My Park Day.” This long-running event invites residents of all ages to take part in hands-on projects that help maintain and beautify local parks, trails, and natural areas.

Organized twice each year in the spring and fall, “It’s My Park Day” has grown into one of the region’s largest volunteer events. In 2024 alone, more than 3,500 people participated across 84 different park sites, contributing over 8,000 hours of service. Volunteers helped with a wide range of tasks including picking up litter, planting native plants, spreading mulch, and repairing park features.

The upcoming fall edition will continue that momentum. Participants can choose from dozens of project locations throughout the greater Austin area, each led by trained project leaders who provide tools, instructions, and encouragement. Many projects are family-friendly and open to all experience levels.

Austin Parks Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing and protecting the city’s public green spaces, provides coordination and support for the event. By engaging volunteers directly in the stewardship of parks, the foundation promotes not only environmental care but also deeper connections between people and the places they share.

“It’s My Park Day” is more than a cleanup effort. It is an opportunity for neighbors to come together, take ownership of their shared spaces, and contribute to the long-term health of the local environment. The program also highlights the importance of accessible, well-maintained parks for physical activity, mental health, and community gathering.

For many, the day becomes a personal tradition. Volunteers return year after year, often bringing friends, family, or co-workers to join the effort. With each bag of mulch spread or pile of litter removed, participants help ensure parks remain safe, welcoming, and sustainable for everyone to enjoy.

Registration opens in early October. Those interested are encouraged to sign up quickly, as popular sites tend to fill up fast. Whether volunteering solo or as part of a group, everyone has something valuable to offer. And together, these collective efforts create a visible impact that lasts well beyond one Saturday in November.
